PHT 131: Video II
The following project is a documentary of the Eastern Shore of Virginia which expands on my previous semester's work in Chincoteague, VA. My grandparents have a house a few minutes down the road from a little town called Parksley. This house belonged to my great-grandmother and was passed down to my grandmother which has allowed me to spend countless summers down there. Because of that, I have so many amazing memories in that house and the surrounding area with family and the friends I have brought along. In this video viewers will get a look at a few notable places like the town of Parksley along with the railway museum; Annis Cove Landing, a local fishing dock and boat ramp; and Onancock, another small town about 15 minutes down the road. I took a risk and flew my drone over the water for a few breathtaking shots of the shoreline and crabbing boats then ended it with a sunset timelapse looking across the water at Annis Cove Landing. For the audio, I got permission from independent country singer/songwriter Cooper James. It is one of four original songs by him and is titled, “Gravel Floors”. After putting the first few clips of this project together I was thinking about what song would capture the spirit of the Eastern Shore and came across his song in my playlist. Listening to it alongside the minute and a half of video I had so far, I knew I had to use “Gravel Floors”. So, I sent him a message on Instagram with the clip and song. I received a response less than 24 hours later telling me how cool my video was and how honored he was that I reached out.
