Life Along the Potomac
This body of work somewhat follows in the footsteps of my previous semester’s work, Life Across the Bay, except it focuses on the DC area and places around it. I have lived in the DMV area all my life and rarely explore DC or along the Potomac, unless of course, I’m going to a Capitals game in the heart of downtown. So, I thought it would be fun to do some exploring and go to different locations to capture Life Along the Potomac. In this body of work, you will see several notable places along the Potomac River. For example, National Harbor, various parts of Old Town and DC as well as the DC Waterfront. There are so many areas along the Potomac to capture so I went with some places most people would know and recognize. As I walked and drove around exploring, I mainly used a standard zoom lens. This helped with capturing people and buildings directly in front of me or if someone was walking down a sidewalk ten or so feet away. Occasionally I pulled out a long zoom lens for that extra reach with subjects I couldn’t zoom into enough with the short lens. For example, a person across the river, down a pier, or a boat passing by. While looking through these pictures the first thing you’ll notice is the Potomac River and its tributaries appearing in almost every single image. I wanted to make them a predominant subject in this work as I’m capturing Life Along the Potomac. The second thing is the people you see and the places along the Potomac that are hotspots for tourists, families, and friends to hang out, grab a bite to eat, and relax. There are even places that allow your furry four-legged family members to accompany you. Lastly, you’ll get to see how colorful, cheerful and fun Life Along the Potomac is.
